FOOTBALL Five things we want to see from MT in the spring

The terrible thing is, and not sure if anyone else saw this, but backup QB Kyle Banks has left the team. This leaves us with a walk-on as our backup. Once the 2 freshman get in, they will immediately be the backup.

This is troublesome since Stockstill has yet to finish a season in 2 years. If hope these freshman we have coming in are ready.

Will former Smyrna QB John Turner go through spring practice?

Banks didn't really show he was capable of winning if Stock goes down. Hopefully Turner is on the team and we have two guys coming in.

The key next year is...
- O Line play better
- Stock staying Healthy, RBs staying healthy
- D improving

Last year, what did us in was the turnover margin, if its even we win 9-10 games. Its not rocket science. Vandy, FAU, UAB and Marshall all losses that we did to ourselves. Worst case we win 2 of those by simple taking care of the ball.

5 things to know with spring practice under way

excerpt:

Last year’s backups, John Urzua (who walked away from football after a series of concussions) and Kyle Banks (who transferred to Reinhardt University to play lacrosse), and no longer on the team.

Enter redshirt freshman Chase Cunningham and freshman John Turner, who are No. 2 and 3 and on the spring depth chart, respectively.

“Those guys will battle there,” Rick Stockstill said. “We’ll see how much they can handle, how much they can learn, how much they can handle mentally and physically. They’ll get a lot of reps. And hopefully after the 15 days, we’ve got a good idea of what they can and can’t do."

Why are they calling John Turner a freshman? Also I guess now it makes a lot of sense as to why 2 QB's were brought in with last year's class.

That's kind of bizarre that Banks, who was essentially the #2 by default behind an injury prone starter, who would have had 2 years headstart on 2 incoming true freshman in the battle to start next year, would leave to play lacrosse of all things. Football's funny though. you got to love the grind.

This team will live and die by it's offense, which will only be as good as it's offensive line.

Turner was told to grayshirt last year. That kid will be ready. We upgraded QB's. Trust me.
