CUSA had a great week 1 with wins over UCF, Purdue, Vanderbilt, and Eastern Michigan. UTSA was very competitive @ Arizona as well and FAU all but beat Tulsa on the road.

Our conference really has a chance to take a step forward and re-solidify it's status as one of the best non-power 5 conferences in week 2. FAU @ Miami, UTEP @ Texas Tech, MT @ Alabama, FIU @ Indiana, and Rice @ Texas all present big challenges but big reward too. If we could just steal two games from that bunch I'd be happy. I could see FIU taking down Indiana and Miami isn't favored by as much as one would think (16 points).....UTEP could push Texas Tech if they can slow their offense down. Texas is playing terrible so you never know with Rice. I'd say our game against Alabama will be the most difficult, but stranger things have happened.

a utsa fan came up with a system to rank the G5 conferences and it was posted on the CUSA board:

It's certainly not an end-all-be-all for ranking conferences, as it doesn't take into account the records of teams (since all P5 and all G5 etc aren't created equal), the fact that some FCS are better than FBS, and some G5s are better than P5s and so on. But it's still a worthy share nonetheless.

What he did was assign 3 points for a P5 win, 2 points for a G5 win, and 1 point for an FCS win. Conversely, he also assigned -1 point for a P5 loss, -2 points for a G5 loss, and -3 points for an FCS loss.

Here are the standings after one week...
1) C-USA (2-3 vs. P5, 3-1 vs. G5, 3-0 vs. FCS) = 10 points
2) MWC (2-0 vs. P5, 0-1 vs. G5, 8-1 vs. FCS) = 9 points
3) AAC (1-2 vs. P5, 1-1 vs. G5, 7-0 vs. FCS) = 8 points
4) MAAC (0-5 vs. P5, 2-1 vs. G5, 3-0 vs. FCS) = 0 points
5) Sun Belt (0-7 vs. P5, 0-2 vs. G5, 2-0 vs. FCS) = -9 points

some observations were made in the thread:

...CUSA had five wins against FBS competition. The other G5 leagues combined for six wins.....

And four of those five wins were on the road!

The MWC had (9) FCS games week one, the AAC had (7). CUSA only had (3) but is still right with those two in total wins. That was an impressive week one from top to bottom, and the atmosphere at Southern Miss and Marshall was fantastic.....

Well, I was 11-1 in my week 1 picks. I missed on FAU since they drilled Tulsa last year.

Here's my week 2 picks. I'm just picking wins and not going points yet. Might add points on Thursday morning.

Thu., Sep. 10
Louisiana Tech @ WKU - La Tech to win.

Fri., Sep. 11
Miami @ Florida Atlantic - Gotta go with Miami

Sat., Sep. 12
Kansas State @ UTSA - KSU
Presbyterian @ Charlotte - Charlotte
UTEP @ Texas Tech - Will be a good game but Texas Tech will win
Austin Peay @ Southern Miss - USM
Middle Tennessee @ Alabama - Bama but we cover
Marshall @ Ohio - Picking Marshall til they lose
Norfolk State @ Old Dominion - ODU
North Texas @ SMU - This one is a hard pick. I'm going SMU. Go Craddock!
FIU @ Indiana - FIU is tough this year. FIU all the way
Rice @ Texas - I'm going out on a limb. I'm picking RIce to get the P5 victory.

I think Western is being plagued with injuries. I think they lost some defensive backs too. Allen's injury looked pretty nasty. I hate that for anyone, especially someone with his talent.

I believe their backup RB got injured the last week of fall camp. IIRC, his injury will be pretty lengthy as well.

WKU is in the drivers seat. Their backup RB was pretty effective so they aren't down by a longshot. They are a pass first squad anyway. Their D is still suspect though letting LT back in that game.

LaTech is overhyped IMO. Manny Diaz isn't walking back through that door. They looked like the complete opposite of what they had last year defensively. Driskel looked horrible until late in the third quarter. We have a shot against both WKU and LaTech.

Watching that game I truly think we are better than Tech. Western is good but they arent head and shoulders above us.

our out of conference opponents in action Saturday

Western Illinois at Illinois, 11AM, BTN
JAckson State vs tennessee state at the Liberty Bowl 6PM
UGA at vandy, 2:30pm, CBS
