Hewitt-Trussville guard announces college commitment

Hewitt-Trussville guard Amiya Payne announced her commitment to Middle Tennessee State University on Tuesday, Aug. 18. The rising senior took to Twitter with the news Tuesday evening.

“Thank you to my parents, family, friends and coaches,” wrote Payne. “Thank you to all that recruited me. A special than you to (Hewitt-Trussville girls basketball) and (Alabama Southern Starz). I am happy to announce my commitment to (Middle Tennessee women’s basketball).”

Payne led the Huskies to a 19-9 season last year, averaging 19.5 points, six rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. The 6-foot junior later became the school’s first recipient of Super All-State honors following the 2019-20 season.

In three seasons playing for head coach Tonya Hunter at Hewitt-Trussville, Payne has scored 1,400 points. She is a three-time member of the Class 7A All-State Girls Basketball Team, and was named one of three finalists for the Class 7A Player of the Year award last season.
