All C-USA teams facing non-D1 competition last night were winners. There was some notable action for C-USA teams facing D1 opponents.
At the top of the list is Louisiana Tech, which went on the road and scored a huge win at Wichita State, 71-58. Tech pounded the Shockers on the glass, 37-26. Looks like the Bulldogs have a couple of good young players named Exavian Christon and Amorie Archibald to group with top returnee Daquan Bracey. Wichita State gave Tech a big gift by shooting an abysmal 11 of 26 at the foul line, but this is a huge win for C-USA.
Old Dominion beat Navy 67-44
UAB topped Mercer 75-67
WKU lost to Washington 73-55, after having led by 9 at halftime. Tops fell apart in the second half. Star newcomer big man Charles Bassey had 11 points and 12 boards in the loss.
Charlotte lost 80-69 at home to Chattanooga.
So after one night of play, C-USA is 3-2 against Division 1 opponents. Good start overall. All MT opponents (including C-USA teams) are 6-2 after last night's action (only counting D1 games). Virginia, Vanderbilt, and Rhode Island were all winners last night in home openers.
