Last year, they beat Syracuse. This year’s slate has three SEC teams: at Vanderbilt to open, at Georgia in Week 3 and at Kentucky in Week 12. With 15 returning starters, including eight on offense, they could push some SEC teams.

“We’ve got Brent back, most of our receivers, the running backs are all back, lost a couple offensive linemen, but I feel really good about the line,” Rick Stockstill said. “Our schedule is extremely tough, playing three SEC teams. The potential is there. We’ve got good players. You just have to go out and do it.” ...

...The league has eight of the nation’s top 30 teams in returning starters, according to Phil Steele, including five in the East division. It also has five teams in the bottom 25 in returning starters, including the other two from the East.

That creates a dynamic in which the division could be more up for grabs at the top than a year ago. Florida Atlantic is the star program coming off an 11-win season in which it won the East by three games, and Lane Kiffin received by far the most attention at Day 2 of the conference’s media days Thursday. But Marshall could be back to the Marshall that won 33 games from 2013 to 2015, and a healthy Middle Tennessee could cause trouble as well.

Still, Kiffin hasn’t lost a C-USA game yet, and until he does, it’s FAU’s league.....
