No real consensus. leaning Boca Raton vs. AAC

IIRC, the CUSA doesn't really designate rank bowl assignments like say the SEC or ACC does. If MT does win CUSA CG, it will likely be based on what espn, the bowl, and the conference think is best, as well as what MT thinks/wants with travel, ticket sales opportunities, and other considerations a part of the negotiations.

I want to see us with a shot to play a p5. Indy is probably the best shot for that to happen, but I bet Shreveport would want either latech or maybe north texas before MT.

I would love to see us in the New Orleans Bowl just for the destination for the fans but I would rather not see MT playing a second straight sun belt bowl opponent.

I'm not sure how bowl revenue works in cusa, if MT is not taking the bowl with the reported highest payout or if all the bowls are smoke and mirrors in that regard.

Good, would suck to do all that has been done and get stuck with the damn Hawaii bowl again.

I too would like to see a bowl in the crescent city if the opposing team was desirable.

Right now, due to proximity...I would take the Independence bowl in a heartbeat.

To my knowledge there has never been a bowl game in Indianapolis. No idea where that game from?

some excerpts from article re: Independence Bowl in Shreveport:

...If the SEC comes up empty, the I-Bowl could head to one of its secondary agreements.

Up first, the American Conference with seven bowl-eligible teams. The AAC has six primary bowl agreements ahead of the I-Bowl deal. However, unless UCF loses the AAC Championship Game to Memphis on Saturday, the Golden Knights will qualify for a New Year’s Six bowl. In that case, the I-Bowl would probably not be an option for the conference.

Want to think big? How about a UCF loss in the AAC game and then a trip to Shreveport to play Miami? I’m guessing Miami and the ACC would not be big fans of the matchup, but it would be an epic get for Shreveport.....

...C-USA qualified seven teams and has six primary agreements.

C-USA could send any of its schools to Shreveport. FIU (8-4) has already accepted a berth into the Bahamas Bowl so the Golden Panthers are out of contention.

With an ACC team awaiting, the I-Bowl would be a juicy landing spot for many of the schools who’d like to face a Power Five opponent – the only other C-USA bowl with a Power Five opponent is the First Responder Bowl in Dallas.

Middle Tennessee State (8-4) and UAB (9-3) will play for the conference title on Saturday.

Other eligible teams: Marshall (8-3), North Texas (9-3), Louisiana Tech (7-5) and Southern Miss (6-5). It’s unlikely C-USA would send the Golden Eagles to Shreveport for a second straight year.

Who will be left out of the ACC to choose? Wake Forest and two others. Duke’s head coach David Cutcliffe loves Shreveport – he won three I-Bowl games in a five-year span (1998-2002) with Ole Miss. The Blue Devils would be fun, but they just got smoked by Wake Forest, 59-7 – not the most attractive choice.

Although Miami is a big name, the Hurricanes aren’t known to travel well, so that could leave them on the table and make a return to Shreveport a big possibility.

Middle Tennessee has never played a Power Five opponent in a bowl game. UAB has never won a bowl game – played in two – and never faced a P5 team in the postseason.

Keeping the prediction conservative again this week -- a prediction that aligns with the supposed guidelines of the conference agreements.

This week’s prediction
Miami vs. UAB

Assuming we beat UAB and UCF beats Memphis, I don’t see how we can pass up the Independence Bowl shot at an ACC team.

I could see UAB winning if the team doesn't step up, but predicting them to win is a little surprising.

Thank you, yes! New Orleans is a nice place but that bowl is for a 6 or 7 win season, not one like this.
Below is the teams records & attendance for the last 6 years.

2017. Troy 10-2 v. N Texas 9-4, 24904

2016. S MS 6-6 v. L LAF 6-6, 35061

2015. Ark ST 9-3 v. L Tech 8-4, 32487

2014. Nevada 7-5 v. L LAF, 8-4, 34014

2013. Tulane 7-5 v. L LAF 8-4, 54728

2012. E CAR 8-4 v. L LAF 8-4, 48828

8 of the 12 teams above had 8 or more wins. Incidentally, we had 9 wins when we won in ‘09.
Of the 5 bowls we have attended the experience at the New Orleans Bowl in ‘09 was by far the best. #2 wasn’t even close. I have been through Shreveport numerous times but have never stayed there. I know there are a ton of casinos but don’t know much past that. I get the allure of playing a bigger school possibly in Shreveport. Google indicates it’s only an hour further drive than ‘ Nawlins. I didn’t look to see how well attended the Independence Bowl is.

If I am the First Responders Bowl, I want UNT vs BYU. UNT has drawn pretty well the 2 times they have been before (almost double Utah -WVU last year.

If I am the NO Bowl, I want UAB or Southern Miss.

If I am the Boca Raton or Gasparilla Bowl I want Marshall.

Assuming the good guys win Saturday, we go to the independence bowl and the UAB/Southern Miss non-NO Bowl participant goes to the other Florida bowl. The New Mexico is left out.

If Memphis wins, look for UAB or USM to be in the New Mexico bowl and us to be in Florida.

I will also add, this is where our C-USA office needs to cut a deal with ESPN. The AAC has 3 guaranteed bowls vs P5, we have 1 that never happens.

It would like to see us take that Birmingham bowl spot from the AAC instead of a Myrtle Beach Bowl vs the MAC or SB.

While I’d love to go to Dallas, the day after Christmas is tough. Back in 2006, the game was late in the day so you could get to Detroit even if you drove.

For me I will go wherever but I’d like to play somewhere warm like Florida.

CUSA BOWLS

NEW MEXICO BOWL North Texas vs. Utah State

NEW ORLEANS BOWL Middle Tennessee vs. App State

BOCA RATON BOWL UAB vs. Northern Illinois

GASPARILLA BOWL Marshall vs. South Florida

BAHAMAS FIU vs. Toledo

HAWAI’I BOWL Louisiana Tech vs. Hawai’i

Marshall got the best bowl and opponent.

South Florida is very beatable...

I saw a game in Florida that is matching up two Louisiana teams...I was hoping we'd get that game against Tulane.

I think we have the most difficult match up.
