Starts tomorrow, July 1st.

"The new rules will allow athletes to profit by monetizing social media accounts, signing autographs, teaching camps or lessons, starting their own businesses and participating in advertising campaigns among many other potential ventures. Athletes will also be allowed to sign with agents or other representatives to help them acquire endorsement deals."

Jackson St had 4 sign last night at 12:01

I wouldn't count on nothing more than about a $5 bill inside a Christmas card from grandma for athletes at MT.

I'm guessing in $EC and B1G country, coaches and admin are already lining up boosters to buy signed t-shirts for about $50,000 a piece.

Anyone else expecting P5 recruits will sell autographs for tens of thousands of dollars 💵 within hours of arriving on campus? Heck, will there be anything to stop recruits from selling NIL before they even sign while still in HS after their senior season is over?

😂😂

This will be a shift, the P% schools in some instances, are going to have internal rifts when players get jealous of one another. The Private big endowment schools can really cash in with recruits. The G5's that have sugar daddy's like Memphis, Houston, UCF can really position themselves. I guess a summer internship at Fedex is now worth 50k?

The top schools were getting the best players anyway, now they are going to have to pay more money for them. I don't think it hurts us at all. It could actually help. I could see some kids that are really good wanting to come to Middle and be a star immediately, rather than sit on the bench at Alabama for a few years waiting for their turn. Being a superstar at a program like ours putting up gaudy numbers could possibly lead to more $$$.

Would it be against the rules for us to start a sole proprietorship/ LLC and collect money to pay for some folks in exchange for their likeness? Or are boosters or people who have donated out of scope? How does that work?

if you can write a check for his autograph, just can't pay for performance.

Now see, a smart administration would be calling every big sponsor. Toots. Murfreesboro Ford. And the like. Getting them on the wagon and set things up. But I honestly don't see our admin doing anything with this in a good way.

I’m assuming this applies to high school athletes too? So I can pay a kid considering MT for his autograph ?

You’ve never been able to pay a high school athlete for his likeness and him then sign with a college team. I was asking if that’s being done away with, because if so the biggest bank accounts are about to have all the best players.

There is a legal difference between paying a kid for his likeness and bribing a HS kid to come to your school. It will be difficult for the NCAA or FBI to manage that as the line is blurred and people push what they can get away with.

It’s a generational difference and college football (all team sports) will never be the same again as my teammates and I once knew it. Two of them went 1st Round and 2nd Round to Seattle in the ‘78 draft. In 4 years of college they never missed a game or practice and both had very successful careers with the Seahawks. We played for room, board, tuition, fees, $15 a month laundry money and four free tickets per game for family and friends.

I guess the “cost of attendance” stipends approved in 2015 aren’t good enough????

The game will change for coaches who will become roster managers and GM’s. “Team” and “loyalty” are gone. At my age, I take this as a sign for me to find a new hobby. I wish them well and hope the players who do get “paid” will effectively manage their newfound windfall and still get a meaningful college degree. Over 98% of them will never sniff “the league”.

As we think about a MT athlete advertising for a M'Boro restaurant or car dealership I have to wonder just how much having a local spokesperson would be worth to a business who has few places to advertise locally. Gotta think that $#&-major schools who are the only college team in town are at an advantage if they are in a larger city - Charlotte or San Antino, even Bowling Green or a small town like Murray where Murray St. has a solid "sphere of influence".

Just as with so many changes to the landscape of college athletics I fail to see how this change can be made into a positive for MT.

Just look at WVU. I mean, that is THE university for the whole state. So you can have the star quarterback etc be all over the state. I mean every Little General convenience store in the state has a Bob Huggins stand up. It would be the same things with players.

So for sure some non money schools it will help. (Yes WVU is P5 but let's face it, they don't have Texas or Oklahoma money). People wise WV is small but it is going to appeal to some players to be all over an entire state.
