FOOTBALL What does the MT/WKU rivalry mean to you?

It honestly meant nothing to me in the beginning. My association with MT started in 98, so we had not played in 7 years. Didn’t start back playing until I had been out of M’boro 6 years. Troy and UNT felt more like a rival than WKU during that hiatus. Then we played them again. For me that 2007...

I think you are on to something. There is something fundamentally flawed with our we technique coaching. The TF scheme is not so complicated that it causes analysis paralysis with too many option routes or reads; HS teams implement it. You can’t drop passes at that rate & I think that falls on...

Running the same offensive last year, Asher had a thousand yards rushing and 2600 passing. That’s literally the prototype for the RPO. He ran several RPO plays in this game & you probably thought those are great play calls because it worked. The only difference between the good and bad play...

Tinsley was open on the 2 point conversion attempt. Pause the video above at the 23 second mark. He beat his man off the line. They had 7 in the box, so the read is pass. Both LBs crash on the run action, meaning if Asher throws the slant, it’s a tie game. The player read/execution failed. I...

Look for him on the river walk or on an Alamo today. I assume those are the reasons he agreed to the game, he wanted a mini-vacation.

That’s the thing. I feel we probably are fine X & Os most of the time. We stink recruiting talent. We stink executing across the board. Our coaches make terrible decisions.

That’s not a very exciting hire as HC. Anything would be better though.

And to add, it’s not all on the LG blocking either. He had the edge sealed for a run. When OHara pulled it out and hitch stepped to not throw the ball, he really didn’t have a chance. moral of the story, the play was fine. If O’Hara looks left and makes a good throw on the slant as his first...

The issue was once again small execution issues. (No receiver names) Our play was an old Steve Spurrier play from the 90s. Basically on the 3 by side, the 2 inside receivers are supposed to hitch and sit. The backside X runs a slant that turns into a cross behind those receivers. Edited to add...

Ha. Here’s where I will agree with you. they can simplify it. Sad thing is, they try to simplify things - the look at me check to the sidelines is really to take some of the pre-snap read off the QB/Wr. The guys in the press box and on the sideline basically let our guys know the route...

It was a stupid decision, but not a bad playcall. The receiver was open, O’Hara didn’t execute - threw it high.

Every good team in college football uses RPO concepts along with pre-snap reads. Heck a lot teams have taken pre-snap reads out of the QB’s hands - that’s where the check with me sideline look comes from.

Once again, if we didn’t go for 2 early chasing points, it’s probably a tie game.

OK there’s no such thing as a run pass option play where the QB counts the number of defenders in the box to decide whether to run or pass?

you know a lot of what you are calling bad play calls is more a bad read. Most “plays” have 3 or 4 different plays built into them. It’s the responsibility of O’Hara to read the play correctly and pick the correct receiver combo to progress through, the receiver to read /run the right option...

Best drive of the season. And we finish with a sack, dropped TD, holding on a TD, settle for a FG. I guess the positive is we got points.

Well, silly trick play and we get the INT. maybe we can get some offense going the 2nd possession.

    Best Case Scenario - unfortunately

I completely disagree. I was glad Sly Croom was embarrassed in the Egg Bowl in his last game. That, plus dropping attendance, donations and a losing record made Greg Byrne’s decision easy. National media denounced the move, can’t win in Starkville, bad facilities etc. (sound familiar?). We got...
