FOOTBALL MT and NIL

These things are extremely secretive.

And probably for the best.
They won't be as much if the House settlement is approved and signed.

Part of the settlement is creation of a clearing house run by the NCAA (that is asking for trouble in itself) that requires all athletes to submit NIL deals over $600 for verification of authenticity. The idea is to make sure they are true NIL paying market value for the player and not incentive or pay for play. You can't have the star QB of UGA making $2m for one 30min appearance. Things like that.

But who determines the market value, who will be the NIL czar, no one knows. And that still restricts what players can make so while the players that sign the settlement can't sue, the collectives (ie boosters) that want to pay more and keep that star QB in their uniform can sue.

This is a long way from over.

Can’t believe you’ve never tailgated. The grove is a great time (haven’t been since 2015 but it used to be at least). I hear this year they are going to do a pregame show (think game day) from the grove each week. Got a nice group building for the home opener.
You heard correctly. Student organization (MTN Sports) is working the logistics out right now.

I haven’t tailgated since my college days but Walnut Grove is definitely the best place in my opinion (assuming they do it still like it was back in the early 2000s). I wonder though once the new stadium construction is finished do any of you foresee this changing and tailgating being a bigger thing on the north side of the stadium? Also too, I have been wanting to come early enough to experience the tailgating again. It’s just been so hard since I have a bunch of young kids. Is there any family friendly activities in the Grove? Like I mentioned it’s been a while for me.

I've only been to 4 home games since I graduated in '02. Been to a bunch of away games. Multiple at Marshall and Charlotte, as well as one at VT. Just not many home since it is so far away and isn't very conductive to bringing tailgate stuff. Now WVU games, one every year almost. Minimum. Shoot. Last year even for Backyard Brawl, 12 of us rented a lake house for the night with a 110" screen and made our own tailgate so to speak.

I remember my freshman year in '98 riding my bike to Texbook Brokers (I forget what it was called then) to buy a shirt before my first game (TSU..we won on a last shot missed FG). There wasn't anyone on campus anywhere then. Place was dead so I guess tailgating picked up later.

Maybe I just missed it all and it was happening in The Grove and away from me. I've always only seen tailgating in parking lots so it is still to this day crazy to me how it all works over there. I always expected Greenland to be packed like WVU's Blue Lot is. You can see it in this link, and see why we rented last year instead of dealing with that cluster.

I went to Greenland for my first game and was massively let down. I quickly realized if you’re not in the Grove you’re not experiencing tailgating at MT.

Such a good team. Still got my coke bottle.

This is how I remember seeing the Blue Raiders from my childhood.

How about those commercials. And a young Dick Palmer calling the game!

I have a mtsu practice jersey #41 that I had during that time when I played pee wee. I still have it!

Memories man. OVC Champs!

I can’t speak for how it was before but I’ve throughly enjoyed the tailgating scene. My group won’t be doing our normal full tailgate for the opener because I’ve got to go to a work event for the boss in our house beforehand but we should have 15-20 people drinking a couple hours before the game. We will be going all out for Homecoming though.

Doing a GoMiddle tailgate? I've never tailgated at an MT game. I honestly don't remember that being done much when I was on campus.

Trying to decide if myself, wife, and our 9yr old son should come down Friday evening or show up mid-day Saturday instead.

FOOTBALL Fall Camp, 2024

Very personable young men who really seem to appreciate the media showing a genuine interest in the team. Great that we now can have 3-4 media representatives asking multiple post scrimmage questions. Gives the viewer a much greater feeling that MT is trying to personally elevate itself as a true fbs team in multiple areas.
In the past I had the feeling that MT was just somewhat going through the motions of establishing itself as an fbs program comparable to other well known G5 schools. Since the CDM hire I have a totally different feeling. Now it really does feel like we have people who are trying to make a difference.
