I've only been to 4 home games since I graduated in '02. Been to a bunch of away games. Multiple at Marshall and Charlotte, as well as one at VT. Just not many home since it is so far away and isn't very conductive to bringing tailgate stuff. Now WVU games, one every year almost. Minimum. Shoot. Last year even for Backyard Brawl, 12 of us rented a lake house for the night with a 110" screen and made our own tailgate so to speak.
I remember my freshman year in '98 riding my bike to Texbook Brokers (I forget what it was called then) to buy a shirt before my first game (TSU..we won on a last shot missed FG). There wasn't anyone on campus anywhere then. Place was dead so I guess tailgating picked up later.
Maybe I just missed it all and it was happening in The Grove and away from me. I've always only seen tailgating in parking lots so it is still to this day crazy to me how it all works over there. I always expected Greenland to be packed like WVU's Blue Lot is. You can see it in this link, and see why we rented last year instead of dealing with that cluster.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Backyard Brawl will continue to be a regular feature in most future seasons.
